Ian Naismith News

2006 -  Fall

  • Finished a 30 second musical piece for the fine folks at Soundstage One in Sarasota, Florida.  The commercial features a nude Brazilian model adorned with beautiful jewelry.  I figured if I couldn't make the desired exotic music to that project, I might as well give it up!!!

  • Finishing my 10th recording since 2001 entitled "X"...

2006 -  Spring

  • Contributing an avant garde tune for a tribute recording for the late Derek Bailey.  Derek was the original force of experimental and improvisational guitar....  The recording is being sponsored by the fine folks at kronosonic.com

  • I have signed a deal that will make all of my recordings digitally available all over the damned place.  Most notably - I-tunes, emusic.com, rhapsody.com, and many, many more.   The digital age is interesting and efficient.  I hope to digitally reduce my waistline in the future.

2005 -  August

  • "Sea Sure" released.  International and interplanetary interest in recording is overwhelming...

2005 -  May

  • "Sea Sure" is finished after quite a delay - just deciding on final artwork.  June release imminent.

  • Have begun next phase of music - the working title is "lift And Duration"  ---  it is a focus on heavy percussion and copious amounts of new textures, magnetic manipulations of electric guitar.  We're psyched around here....!

  • Ian has been invited to perform a piece for the next Progressive Rock Collectors compilation album.  COOL!!!

2004 - September

  • "Spirit Amalgam" is finally released.....!!!!

  • "Sea Sure" is about 50% finished with a December release date planned....

  • I predict Florida will have 14 hurricanes this year...............................

2004 - July

  • Ian is beginning a fretless guitar experiment using an old beat up Peavey T-60, using fused glass on the neck, and a Fernandes Sustainer pickup in the neck position... should be a blast!

2004 - March

  • Ian just finished a collaboration with Jason Fink for a recording coming from the experimental guitarist collective known as kronosonic.com.  Jason does most of the guitar(ing) with a fantastic tone emitting from one of his homemade Kleinesque guitars.  Ian provided a few quirky guitar parts and did holographic dome production.  The project was short and sweet and a lot of fun.

  • Noticed that davidsylvian.net and Max Corbacho are now linking this site - cool...

  • Just bought a Wurlitzer piano - have always wanted to record a piano CD (with haunts and drones included)... Probably will become a project in the near future.

2004 - January

  • "Spirit Amalgam" is now about 25 minutes complete.  The release is expected to house about 60 minutes of spicy, spooky, spunky music...

  • Ian's CD's that are being rated at Gnosis are getting high marks http://www.gnosis2000.net ...

  • "Ark On Mt. Arafat" from Subterranean Flame has rested within the top 10 charts for world fusion at Soundclick.com and "Fires Of Szeyennes" is resting within the top 10 charts for tribal electronica...

2003 - December

  • http://www.soundclick.com/iannaismith has replaced Ian's mp3.com site - as, mp3.com has disappeared for a while.  Full length version of samples can be heard at the above site.

  • Ian has begun 2 new projects:  "Spirit Amalgam" is the continuation of the ethnoambient vibe found with the non Aquatic series of recordings.  "Spirit Amalgam" is by far the most realized work to date and should be available by May, 2004.  Ian has also begun "Sea Sure" which is a 60 minute long work that is slow paced and sub aquatic due by the end of 2004..

2003 - November

  • "Subterranean Flame" is released

2003 - September

  • Well, "Subterranean Flame" is just about finished...
